KEMPA has established the Linda Barrington Grant to aid KEMPA member publications achieve excellence in journalism. The grant will provide needed aid to member publications in the name of longtime board member and tireless champion of scholastic journalism Linda Barrington.
Funds available for these grants come from the generosity of previous members.
Grant Process:
- Candidates submit the grant application that includes rationale, other funding streams attempted, and specific details for the grant’s use by June 30, 2026. Requests may be up to $1,500.
- The KEMPA Board or Grant Committee will evaluate all applications to make final determinations.
- The KEMPA Board or Grant Committee may contact applicants for additional information for a clearer and more complete understanding of the grant request.
- Grant amounts will be determined at the Board or Committee’s discretion and may not be the entire amount requested.
- Recipients will be notified as soon as decisions are made with public notification and funds disbursement at the KEMPA Fall Conference.
- Checks may be made payable to organizations, school districts, service or product providers, even the individual member depending on the grant request.
- Members can apply for grants annually; however, a member publication may receive a grant every other year.
- Once grant funds have been disbursed, the recipient must provide confirmation of the funds usage within one year. This should be a receipt(s), photos of the product or event, and a short, written summary.
- KEMPA reserves the right to use photos and testimonials on our website or other promotional materials.
