Preparing for the next school year, the Kettle Moraine Press Association (KEMPA) is excited to host its annual Scholastic Journalism Conference on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. We would love for you to submit one or more proposals for engaging sessions that can inspire student journalists and jump-start their programs. Our theme will be “Power of the Press.”
We welcome sessions for both students and advisers, focusing on any aspect of journalism, including advising, photography, writing, newspaper, magazine, yearbook, online publishing, advertising, broadcast, and more. The conference schedule will begin with awards and announcements at 9:30 a.m., followed by a keynote speaker from 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Each of the two sessions will last 45 minutes, starting at 10:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. At 11:45 a.m., advisers and presenters will enjoy a complimentary buffet lunch during our yearly KEMPA meeting, which includes awards presentations, elections, announcements, and more.
However, we cannot hold this conference without amazing educators and professionals like yourself. By presenting at the conference, you can showcase your expertise, network with other professionals, and contribute to the development of the next generation of journalists. Don’t worry if you’ve never presented before: everyone has something valuable to share, regardless of their experience level, and our student journalists make great audience members.
If you’re interested, please fill out this Google Form to show your session title, description, intended audience, technology needs, and preferred time slot (if any). Presenters have the choice of receiving a modest stipend or donating it to KEMPA. If you know of a co-worker at your organization who would be a good addition, please feel free to forward this email to them. We’d love to have them!
We would appreciate your response by August 15, 2025. We understand that this is a busy time of year, but we are confident that this conference will provide a valuable experience for our student journalists. We appreciate your consideration in helping to make it happen.
Sincerely,
Beth Marshall
