Gearing up for This Year’s KEMPA Fall Conference

KEMPA connects people through its website, email reminders and events promoting learning, and thus has incredible power to create community. Similarly, KEMPA is committed to bringing individuals together and building personal and professional community—at the Fall Scholastic Journalism Conference and throughout the year.

KEMPA is excited to be holding an in-person Fall Conference on Friday morning, Oct. 15, 2021 at UW-Whitewater.

Our theme, CONNECTIONS, emphasizes the need to rebuild relationships within our publications and school communities. Some sessions will focus on team-building, staff culture and interviewing.

The opening session will begin at 8:45 a.m. with awards and announcements. Each of the three sessions will last 45 minutes, starting at 9:30, 10:30, and 1:00.  Advisers and presenters at 11:30 will then take part in the yearly KEMPA meeting, including awards presentations, elections, announcements, etc.

Online registration for the event will start in September.

$15 per student and adviser for KEMPA-member publications. (If you wish to become a regular member, use this KEMPA membership form 2021-2022 (Membership: $55) and send it to Bob Kay at address on the form.)

$20 per student and adviser for non-KEMPA members.

Advisers, it’s not too late to join us as a presenter. We’d like sessions both for students and for the advisers. Your session does not have to match the theme, but we especially welcome those that do. We welcome proposals that would focus on any aspect of journalism, including advising, photography, writing, newspaper, magazine, yearbook, online publishing, advertising and more. Please use the following link to submit a proposal.
